About the role:

Do you have a comprehensive understanding of the lived experiences of Māori in South Auckland?

Do you believe in the value of Tangata Moana relationships that exists between Tangata Whenua and Pacific peoples and support the aspiration of Mana Motuhake for whānau, hapū and iwi in South Auckland?

Do you have management experience in the public or non-profit sectors with strong networks at a systems level? 

Would you be confident in leading the practice of embedding Māori knowledge, culture in a Pacific organisation to support local Māori?

If you’ve answered yes, then this is your opportunity to join us as our  Kaiārahi Māori. 

This is a significant role and a genuine opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the work we deliver to our communities.

As our Kaiarahi Maori, you will be a critical part of the Leadership Team and will be  providing strategic guidance and support to  implement positive systems change for Māori, and to ensure that these are practiced and communicated in appropriate and meaningful ways by/for Māori.

You will be providing  leadership and guidance to our kaimahi in relation to understanding complex systems from Te Ao Māori perspectives and co-designing approaches that directly influence and improve equitable outcomes for Mãori. Under the Healthy Families South Auckland umbrella, you will work collaboratively with the Healthy Families NZ Māori community of practice to drive strategic opportunities that emerge from the collective learning and sharing of insights and evidence.

To be successful in the role, you will be :

  • Comfortable working alongside Pacific peoples and driving Tangata Moana (the relationship between Tangata Whenua and Pacific peoples) to support local Māori to achieve Oranga Whakapapa – generational health and wellbeing.
  • Appreciative and understanding of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Maori, and Pacific peoples’ culture.
  • Experienced in the public sector and/or non-profit organisations and comfortable engaging at all levels including community members
  • A champion of partnerships between Māori and non-Māori groups
  • Energetic, motivated and have an agile and innovative mind-set
  • A confident and courageous Māori leader.
  • Experienced at a senior management level in Māori health and social service design, implementation, and delivery
  • Confident in your knowledge of Te Reo and Tikanga with a deep understanding of Māori culture and values and holds mana, credibility and influence
  • An excellent communicator with strong relationship management skills across a wide range of stakeholders, gaining their trust and respect.
  • Have existing collaborative working relationships across a range of sectors, Iwi, Hapu, whanau, others in the community would be ideal.
  • Able to work outside of standard hours of work (when required).
