Honesty, Respect, Compassion,
Courage and Service
Tapuvakai Vea grew up in Mt Roskill but is of Tongan descent from Uiha, Faleloa, Tungua and Niutoua villages. He is an ex-pupil of Dilworth school and still supports the school and its students today.
Prior to joining Healthy Families South Auckland Tapu had just completed a Bachelors Degree in Health Science and Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health. He is passionate about Pacific and Māori health, particularly inequities on health compared to non-Māori and Pacific groups. “I have a drive to make massive changes within these populations through new ways of thinking and by better supporting our communities to lead healthier lives,” he adds.
Inspired by his parents and their dedication to meeting the needs of their children and wider family, their example drives Tapu to achieve in work and life, and to continually strive to be a better person.
“I am the Community Initiatives Manager with the responsibility of leading our team to understand, disrupt and impact different issues and opportunities. Also to change the current system that will see better health outcomes for our communities in South Auckland.”
“I have a focus on workplace wellbeing and getting businesses to think and act differently when it comes to wellbeing within their organisations. Our work is about disrupting the status quo in business by empowering workers to have a voice and lead change. More importantly, the work ensures that wellbeing is a collective responsibility across businesses where strong business equals strong community. Our people spend 24% of their time at work and, for some even more. If their wellbeing is looked after at work, it means that they will take that back to their families and communities.”
