Saarah, whose family currently resides in Papakura, is of Fijian Indian and Māori descent from Ba and Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga.
What led you to working at Healthy Families South Auckland?
Having worked in journalism for almost a decade I was looking for a new challenge and purpose. I wanted a role that enabled me to grow my skillset and reach people from my community through positive storytelling and messaging.
Who inspires you and why?
My fiance, he’s got the biggest heart, generosity of spirit and the patience of a saint!
What is your current role?
What projects are you currently working on and what impacts do they have on the community?
I joined The Cause Collective amid NZ’s COVID-19’s Alert level 4 and was thrown straight into crisis communications. Throughout lockdown we worked primarily on our Facebook pages, Prepare South Auckland and Prepare Pacific to help keep our community safe.
What is one funny/quirky/interesting thing that no one knows about you?
I’ve travelled to 31 countries.
Who is your favourite Superhero and why?
Mum, she’s talented, gorgeous, resourceful, independent, hilarious and loving- what more could you ask for?!
What is your superpower?
I like to think I’m good at reading people.
